HGTV was on location filming in Galveston in April and May. Barbara’s clients live in Beaumont and both work in other cities. They wanted an island home where they could “meet halfway” and “honeymoon” together as often as possible. They fell in love with Galveston’s West End charm and Barbara helped them find the perfect island getaway.

What is your title and what do you do at SNS? How long have you worked with Sand `N Sea? I am the Maintenance Manager – so I coordinate regular maintenance visits to each of our vacation homes as well as making sure we get someone out quickly to address any issues that come up during guest stays. I enjoy working with all of our local vendors. I have worked with Sand `N Sea for 10 years.
How long have you lived on the Island? 11 years.
What is your favorite restaurant/dish on the Island? Yamato’s Japanese Restaurant
What is your favorite attraction/thing to do on the Island? Why? I really enjoy going to Moody Gardens with my family. I like the Aquarium the best.
What do you think Galveston’s best-kept secret is? Board Game Island – it’s a great way to spend a couple of hours in Downtown Galveston!

We love that we get to see some of the same guests and their families return to a Sand `N Sea vacation home each year!
Way back in 2005 all of our brainstorming finally hit upon a way to show our appreciation in the form of a frequent renter reward program. What is your title and what do you do at SNS? How long have you worked with Sand `N Sea? I am the Guest Relations Coordinator and have worked with Sand `N Sea since July of 2009. I get to do a little of bit of everything! I manage our guest rewards program (Guest Advantage), handle our social media and online presence, work with the Marketing Team on rental and real estate pieces, back up our Reservationists, head up special projects, and more!
What is your favorite restaurant/dish on the Island? I love getting dinner at the new Shrimp N Stuff location in Downtown Galveston. The patio seating is this really nice little oasis.
What is your favorite attraction/thing to do on the Island? Why?
The Moody Gardens Aquarium Pyramid. I love that the longer you watch each exhibit the more you see – and my husband and daughter could spend hours there. I can’t wait to see it after the renovation is done!
Where do you always take your out-of-town visitors? Why? We always do the Moody Gardens complex. And the beach (of course!). I also really enjoy wandering The Strand and always have to check out what’s new at The Admiralty.
What local event do you like the best? It’s hard to choose! I really enjoy ArtWalk and the Music/Movie Nites on the Strand. As free and family-friendly events they’re my go-to for weekend entertainment.

It’s Fall!! Don’t get us wrong – we love summers on the island. However, if pressed, we might admit to loving October/November even more (shhhhh!). There’s something about a steady forecast of 80 – 90 degrees with a cool breeze, endless blue skies, and the less-busy beaches that really speaks to us. Plus, it seems like there’s a festival (and festival food!) almost every weekend!
We arrived at the office a little early the other morning and couldn’t resist a quick stop off across the street at Pirates Beach. There’s a lot to be said for a coffee from MOD in one hand and a beachfront view of the Gulf complete with sand beneath your feet – all before the work day starts!
Now that we are well out of peak season, our Rental Team is busy with a slew of midseason projects: annual property maintenance, refreshing our Guest Books that go in each home, compiling pictures and info for our 2016 Vacation Planning Brochure, adopting and tweaking new rental software, and more! Really, we’ve been working on 2016 all year…compiling suggestions from guest surveys, tracking retail and entertainment developments on Galveston Island, adding new vacation homes to the rental pool, etc.
All of that is going on while our Reservationists continue to help you book vacation rentals for Columbus Day, the Lone Star Rally, Thanksgiving, Christmas…you name it!
There really isn’t an off-season in the world of vacation rentals and real estate! 😛

Galveston is a great beach community with awesome local restaurants, shops, and hidden gems; and we can’t wait to highlight some of our favorite island spots as well as those of our homeowners, vendors, and guests.
We can’t get enough of this awesome project! There’s a huge expanse of brand new beach already open to the public, and work is continuing westward along Seawall Blvd. Here’s a progress picture from September 17:
We get to see the progress every morning on our way to the office, but if you aren’t lucky enough to be heading to a Sand `N Sea vacation home soon you can always watch the progress live on the SandCam!
Imagine this: You’ve just arrived somewhere in Texas with your friends and family for a weekend getaway. The sun is shining on your face, the wind is in your hair, and you’re relaxing on 725,00 new cubic yards of beach. You read that right- there’s a whole new beach in town. Where are you? Galveston Island, of course! The biggest beach reconstruction project in the history of the Island, the Seawall West Nourishment Project, is officially underway.
How far will 725,000 cubic yards (taken from the Galveston Ship Channel) really get you? Once moved, the sand will make for 20 brand new blocks of beach between 61st Street and 81st Street. That’s 20 new blocks of sun-bathing, sea swimming, frisbee throwing, and much more! Beach access in this area is currently limited, but it’s worth the wait! The U.S Army Corps of Engineers began adding sand for the Beach Building project in August 2015 and completion is expected by late October 2015. Come enjoy the finished project this fall by planning your next Galveston getaway!
