Sunny Beach Galveston
Sunny Beach Galveston is a small beachfront subdivision developed in the 1960s on the Gulf side of FM 3005 at 8 mile Road, a mile west of the Seawall. Sunny Beach was West Galveston’s first beachfront subdivision, the closest development of single-family beach houses to 61st Street (5.6 miles away).
Galveston Beach Pocket Park #1 is next to Sunny Beach, and Beach Pocket Park #2 is a little more than a mile to the west. Both are family-friendly public beaches managed by the city. Dellanera RV Park is a little less than a mile east of Sunny Beach.
Moody Gardens Municipal Golf Course, Schlitterbahn, Moody Gardens are 5 miles to the east.
The approximately 45 houses at Sunny Beach Galveston range in size from 700 to 2,400 square feet, with an average of 1,100 square feet. About half were built before 1997, though construction has continued in recent years. All homes at Sunny Beach are single-family residences, about 8 of which are owner-occupied year-round. Eight of the houses are located on the “front row” at the beach. Streets are unpaved. Installation of city sewer service is planned for the future.
The neighborhood has a laid-back atmosphere, with a voluntary neighborhood association that charges minimal dues and no maintenance fees. Vacation rentals are permitted, abiding by local regulations on rental of beach houses in Galveston.
