No time to browse the calendar? Take a quick look at some of our favorite annual events in Galveston.
On Saturday nights throughout the year, the Galveston Art Center presents ArtWalk. Galleries, restaurants, and retail spaces extend their hours and often offer hors d'oeuvres or special exhibit, all in support of our vibrant local art scene. This is a longtime local favorite.
The Pleasure Pier, a year-round attraction, offers a variety of special Galveston event days. Extending from the seawall out over the Gulf, it is home to rides, restaurants, carnival-style concessions, and souvenir shopping. In January and February, the Historic Pleasure Pier welcomes adults to be a “Kid for a Day.” Everyone pays children’s admission prices for all-day passes. Visit their website for a full schedule of events.
Each November, Galveston hosts one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the U.S. Thousands of bikers from across the country roar onto the Island for a four-day celebration. The event features concerts, an Old Time Motorcycle Rodeo, car & truck shows, and more!

You can bring the kids along for some fun family time, too — the schedule includes many family-friendly activities such as children’s parades and coloring contests for the little ones. If you prefer to let your hair down and have some grown-up fun, you're in luck; you can purchase tickets for the New Orleans-style balcony parties on Strand Street. Get yours early!
Grand Kids Festival
The Grand 1894 Opera House puts on the Grand Kids Festival each April. AIA Sandcastle Competition
Galvestonians and Island visitors look forward to August every year when the AIA Houston hosts its annual sandcastle building competition. Teams of architects create enormous works of art from sand. This Galveston event is exciting for the entire family. Pack a picnic, bring your umbrellas and chairs (or rent them), and get ready for a day filled with fun and imagination.

This local favorite includes live music performances, food, drinks, a local farmers market, and an interactive play zone for kids. It’s a good time for all ages.
Holiday in the Gardens
Moody Gardens’ holiday celebration is one of the most anticipated events of the year. This popular destination brings magic to life for eight weeks each winter season. It runs from November to January. Read below for information on some of the top attractions.
Festival of Lights
Running along a mile-long trail through Moody Gardens, visitors enjoy animated displays created with over one million lights. There is also live entertainment, the only outdoor skating rink in the area, and yummy hot cocoa.
Iceland
If you’re up for a chilly yet awe-inspiring experience, head into this nine-degree exhibit. Master carvers use two million pounds of ice to hand-carve everything in Iceland.
